Our Next Meeting:

Our next meeting will be on November 1st at noon at Nevada Bank & Trust. Our guest speaker will be Kathy Poindexter from the Mesquite Local News discussing her work on the Clean Air Mesquite petition.

PAUL HARRIS QUOTE:“Can a club of fifty or a hundred members influence the character of a small city? It has been clearly proven that Rotary Clubs do influence the characters of the cities in which they are established. The influence naturally is most noticeable in the smaller communities. Many a dejected, spiritless town of the Main Street variety has been revived and invigorated. Existence can become drab indeed in small towns where there is no public spirit and where home folks are given to bickering and gossip. If the spirit is what it should be, life should be at its best in the smaller communities.”
“The Rotarian” Magazine MomentThis week’s magazine moment was presented by Yvonne. Val Johnson cofounded the nonprofit, H2O for Life, which matches schools in the U.S. with schools in developing nations that lack clean water and sanitation facilities. The organization works with students to raise funds through fundraisers such as water walks, which simulate the chore of fetching water, sometimes from miles away. Since the organizations founding in 2007, students have raised more than $1 million for projects at schools in 26 countries.

Upcoming Events

November 5th is the big day. To start the day, the Rotary Club will be participating in the Veterans Day Parade at 10am. Then, from 4pm to 7pm, we will be holding our first ever, Rotary Block Party in the Brickyard Plaza. There will be free food and kids games with prizes, face painting, live entertainment, and art display by the Virgin Valley Artist Association and the Elementary Schools. The evening will conclude with our 5th annual Glow-in-the-Dark Golf Ball Drop. Tickets for the ball drop are still available. Purchase yours today from a Rotarian. 1. Hello Rotarians,
Does your club participate in the Dictionary Project? If not, one of our St.George clubs would be interested in serving the school in Beaver Dam. And if not, it is a terrific Literacy/Community Service Project. All our clubs in D5420 participate and love it. Look at http://www.dictionaryproject.org or write to me and I can help you set it up.
It seems that I once heard that an Elks Club in Mesquite was doing the project there, but have no way to contact them.
    Best Wishes,
    Wally
